Aileron didn't start with a grand business plan; it actually started with a very simple frustration. When I was training at a flight school in the South of England, every trainee was given the same logbook. It was bright blue, cheap, and painfully ordinary. We were told this was the book we'd use to document every flight, from our first solo to our first job as a First Officer. As I looked at it, I couldn't help but feel a little disappointed.
Everything about our flight training was rigorous, precise, and full of pride. We were learning a craft that demanded discipline and depth, yet the flight school logbook that was meant to capture that journey felt like an afterthought.
I remember sliding it out of my flight bag one day and feeling a little embarrassed. It didn't reflect at all the professionalism or prestige of the career I was stepping into.
Personalised Pilot Logbooks
That's when the idea for Aileron began to take shape. I wanted to create a logbook that would match the quality of the career it represented, something functional, timeless, and worthy of the hours it would hold. A book you'd be proud to carry into the cockpit.
We knew one thing for certain, this wouldn't be just another generic Pilot logbook. It needed to be truly personal. A pilot's name should live on the cover, proudly displayed, because every logbook will go on to hold a career full of memories, unique to that individual person.
We spent 12 months working with suppliers, trainees and qualified pilots, building the perfect layout, finding the best materials, testing and tweaking.
Today, our personalised logbooks are handcrafted from premium materials and designed with both durability and elegance in mind. The Aileron Logbook became more than just a place to record flight hours. It became a reflection of a pilot's journey, we always say, every take-off, every challenge, every milestone preserved in pages built to last.
Since then, Aileron has grown beyond the logbook. We developed an app in early 2019, and we're one of the only companies across the globe that offers pilots a way to print and bind their digital hours.
We also expanded into pilot and aviation gifts. Again, every single item in our shop is designed by the team at Aileron (half of us are still line flying commercial pilots), and everything is handcrafted in the UK.
